I don’t really like working out my shoulders, but I do feel like I have made the most progress on them! Grow lil’ pumpkins grow!!

I finished off my workout with 25 minutes on the stairmaster. I sprinted for 30 seconds, rested for 30 and so on.

The last five minutes of my HIIT, I did 30 seconds of jumping jack, 30 seconds high knees, 10 decline pushups, 30 seconds burpees, 30 seconds jumping jacks, 30 seconds speed skaters, 10 decline pushups, 30 seconds jump squats, 30 seconds jumping jacks, 10 decline pushups, 30 seconds high knees, 10 decline pushups. No rest until I was finished.

I sat in the sauna for 10 minutes too. I love that thing!

Now, I bring you my favorite things from this week!

I just went and bought a new round of whey protein. Of course I bought more Beverly International Cookies n Cream flavor but this…..

This lululemon sports bra.

Yeah, it may be pricey, but with the amount of time I spend at the gym, it’s worth it to me. Plus, it’s light and moves with you so there isn’t chaffing. I have it in bright pink.

 

I am on a meal plan right now that is pretty set in stone. So, when I have cravings, I turn to this amazingness:

Extra Dessert Delights. My favorite flavors are Mint Chocolate Chip and Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake.

 

This shoe.

It belongs to Alex and it is the very shoe that killed the giant ass spider that cornered me in my kitchen earlier this week. I may sound dramatic, but my arachnophobia is the real deal. Plus, I have never seen a creature like this one before, so I was freaked out. This shoe saved me.

 

Mustard. I put it on everything now a days because it doesn’t add any extra calories. I have gone through 3 of these in four weeks.

Also, thanks to one of my favorite IG accounts, @jazzythings, I have a new way of changing the flavor of mustard, although it’s perfect just the way it is, I need change every now and then.

I take a 1/2 cup of mustard, add 1 tsp stevia, paprika, onion powder, and a little bit of water. Holy yum!! Sounds weird but don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it. Also, I enjoy cheeseburgers with peanut butter (I plan on eating a giant one after my comp). Get over it.

I watch a lot of it because I can’t eat a whole lot right now, so why not watch people make delicious food.

I Don’t Hate Cardio

Today’s workout was a good one but my energy level was off. I was still able to get my leg workout done and finish it all off with the stair master, step mill, stair mill, etc. I don’t care what you call it, it’s evil and delicious at the same time.

I  went for 20 minutes at different speeds and stepping variations. Side steps, slow steps with donkey kicks, sprinting….I was shweaty!

I hit up smooooothie king afterwards for my favorite angel food smoothie with vanilla protein and that peanut butter added in to it! MMMmmmmmmm

FYI: I organize my weekly workouts on a white out board so I stay on top of what muscle groups I train. I don’t want to over do it and not see my gainzzzzz. Everyone needs a little rest now! I do switch it up though and do full body workouts every now and then. Gotta keep the gym interesting!

I don’t hate cardio but I rarely get on a machine anymore for a lengthy amount of time. My weightlifting keeps my heart rate pumping because I don’t take many breaks and throw in some jumping jacks, jump squats, jumping lunges etc. BUT I do mix it up and yesterday, I did some battle ropes for 4 minutes and that was all I could take. I used my gymboss interval timer to keep me on track.  That ish is hard!! I also ran about a mile outside. Here was my thouight process: I am going to run home from the gym and have Alex take me to my car on his way to the gym. I got about a half mile away and was freezing! I couldn’t warm up…stupid Ohio weather.  So, I turned the wheels around and went back to the gym to grab my car keys. I still ran a mile…oh well.

I also cranked out a 3 minute plank the other day. I don’t know what came over me but I hopped off the couch and just went for it. Charlee provided me with some motivation as she licked my face off for most of it. Anytime I get on the floor she freaks out and becomes this little maniac. Maybe it’s because I am finally on her level?!?

I’m going to be ordering an athletic swim suit soon because that lap pool has been calling my name lately! I received an Athleta catalogue in the mail and have my eyes on a couple of them!

I love them because they keep me from getting bored. You can do whole body or you can focus on different muscle groups. They are great because I can get them done quick and go tackle a run or some other form of cardio.

Lululemon.

I wore this today during my workout and it stays in place perfectly around the hips.

This place seriously makes me happy! Their workout gear lasts for a long time and I even wear my leggings for everyday wear or as my friend Sarah puts it…”I can even wear these for just….life.” The girls that work at the Lululemon near me have gotten to know me too.  It’s love. I own a few pairs of their running compression capris and they don’t fall or ride up. So comfortable!

Brussel Sprouts.

I have eaten brussels every day this week. I love them roasted with olive oil and Trader Joe’s everyday seasoning. So. Yum.

They are a great source of Vitamin C, help protect against colon cancer, full of anti-oxidants, great source of calcium and helps keep immune system strong.

 

Clinique Moisture Surge

This stuff saved my face last winter after I experienced severe dryness up here in Ohio. I mean, flaky dry, nasty skin. I had never experienced such a thing because growing up in Florida, the humidity prevented this but after a week of using this amazing moisturizer, I was cured. I apply a thick layer at night before bed and I have yet to experience dry skin this winter.

I love going into TJ’s! Their food is great quality and my grocery bill has been a lot cheaper since I started shopping here compared to Kroger. Also, their staff is so friendly and helpful.

 

Spinning.

I love that bike. I have gotten on it just about everyday this week for either a quick warm-up or for a nice long, sweaty session. I forgot I had spin shoes and strapped those babies on earlier this week and felt it in my glutes the next day! Winning!

 

Battle Ropes/Muscle Ropes.

I had go workout at a different gym today because my gym was closed and upon walking into this giant gym, I noticed the battle ropes. I went on over and completed a super hard workout on those things. I just looked up different movements on YouTube for the ropes and went for it. Awesome workout. And yes, I tried the BOSU ball stable exercise (at the 4:00 min mark in the video)….holy heck that was hard!!

Leg Workout and Brownies!

I woke up this morning with a lot of energy and I am not sure why that was the case since I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night and had a super crazy night at work but I will take it! I took that energy to the gym to complete a super sweaty, killer leg workout. It went something like this:

For my warm-up, I didn’t get on a cardio machine, I did 3 sets of 10 burpees with a wide grip pull-up and 10 man makers because those are killer and 10 just about made me want to go home! I probably should have just done 8 or 5 because I am sure by the 5th one my form was a bit off. I also did 4×12 Single Leg Medicine Ball Bridges and Good Mornings on the Smith Machine.

There have been quite a few of you have who asked me to post videos of some of my exercises so I will do my best to get links in on each post. I would do more videos of me performing them but I usually workout on my own so I need to find a better way to set up my phone to record myself. Always awkward but it is really cool to have friends and readers email, text or comment me asking me to post videos of me performing my exercises!!

I cooled off with 3 sets of 10 squats on the Smith Machine with no added weight and stretching! I will feel this workout tomorrow.

I love finding new exercises that are challenging. It keeps the gym from getting redundant which you never want and it also allows for different muscle groups to get involved. Too many times, especially when I worked out at a huge, chain fitness center, I would see people with defined traps but no other back muscles? Or deltoids for days but no biceps? I just feel like if your muscles aren’t balanced then it can create or result in injuries. That is just my opinion so focus on ALL muscle groups and you will see excellent results!

This morning, I woke up starving so I ate 1/2 cup of overnight oats, a banana, and half a grapefruit. Delicious fuel for the gym. I also whipped up some healthy brownies because I was craving chocolate.

My love for sweet potatoes took over again in this recipe!! In the brownies went:

1 1/4 c bananas

1/2 c cooked, smashed sweet potato ( I have also used pumpkin puree)

3/4 c p.butter (I used sunflower butter)

2 eggs

1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 c applesauce(I use the no added sweetener applesauce)

3/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder

2/3 c chocolate chips (I may have added more in this batch)

In a processor, add banana, sweet potato, and nut butter until smooth. Add eggs and applesauce, puree again. Then add baking soda and cocoa powder.

Mix in chocolate chips but don’t over stir. Add to an 8X8 pan and bake at 375 degree for 15-20 minutes.

I have already eaten 1/4 of the pan. Alex, please come home soon so I don’t eat the whole thing!

Burpees.

Ok, so the other day, I decided I am going to challenge myself by doing 1000 burpees in the month of March. That is approximately 250 burpees/week? I figured I would break it down to four days a week of burpees which if I rounded it up would be 65 burpees/day because I don’t like uneven numbers.  I will also add them into my circuit workouts because circuit workouts are my favorite! They keep me entertained and distraction free.

Burpees do wonders for your body! They blast fat, keep your heart rate up, target many muscles, and rev up your metabolism which allows for your body to burn calories long after your workout is completed! #WINNING!!!

I love intense workouts and becoming a sweaty mess at the gym. It lets me know I made the most of my workout and burpees definitely kick my butt. I don’t do them as often as I would like so I am going to challenge myself in March and hopefully long after!

There are so many different moves to incorporate into burpess: add in some squats, add in a BOSU ball<—-yesss!!, add in some pull-ups, use weights, incorporate box jumps, etc. Just get creative. If you need ideas, you can always reach out to me. I am full of ideas!!

On another, WAY more exciting note, my best friend, Jamily will be having her TWINS by the end of this week!! I can not wait to meet those little beans!! Jamily and I have been best friends since 2001 and I am so happy for her and her growing family! When she told me she was pregnant again, I was so, so happy for her. A couple weeks later, I had a dream that she had twins but what was strange was her daughter, Eva, was one of them?!?!?! Anyways, I somehow knew she was having twins and she also had a feeling they were twins as well. She called me after her first ultrasound and our intuitions were true….TWINS!! My heart is full!

Tuesdays Thoughts

This morning I woke up feeling not so stellar and I think it was due to looking out my window and seeing snow. *sigh*  I immediately put on my workout clothes and hit the gym. There is nothing like a good workout to boost your mood and I left feeling so much better! I did a killer leg workout with some core work that looked like this:

I also did some agility/speed work. I left the gym a sweaty mess!! Perfect.

Sometimes, when I get back from the gym I don’t feel like cooking anything so I make myself a huge smoothie. I don’t care if its 34 degrees or -10 degrees, I will have a smoothie any time of the year. Today, my smoothie included:

1 cup frozen strawberries, mango, blueberries, and bananas

1 c vanilla yogurt

1 tsp Chia seeds

1/2 c almond milk

On Saturday, Alex and I went to the mall. It seemed as though everyone else in Columbus had the same idea. That place was a nightmare but I did get some pretty rad workout clothes from Lululemon, so that made up for the craziness.

We woke up on Sunday with the idea to spontaneously go skiing. I had never been skiing before so I was all about it. Mad River Mountain was a short drive and when we got there, I started to get nervous. I am all about adventure and finding the thrill in things, but for some reason my nerves kicked in! We hopped on the ski lift to what Alex thought was the beginner hill…NOPE!! It was definitely the slope where snowboarders were doing tricks and jumps and all sorts of things that didn’t make sense to me. I was on my butt…a lot. All I kept thinking was this is going to be a long day!

We finally found the lift to the green hill and I didn’t fall once! I was so proud of myself. We went down it a few more times so I could really gain my confidence. There were a couple falls because I started to get brave and go straight down. The speed kind of scared me so I would plop. Once we got sick of that slope, we went to a steeper one. The last part of the slope was steep and I freaked out but once I saw Alex, Mr.Pro, go down, I just went for it. I went straight on down and ate it hard!! All I could do was laugh. We decided to go down the beginner slope a couple more times so I could really grasp the slowing down part and then it was time for the big boy slope! I was super nervous because all day, I kept telling myself I won’t go down that one because I saw so many people fall on it and it looked painful. I finally thought to myself, if I can jump out of a plane, I can conquer this slope. I took the leap and made it down the slope! I did fall a couple times but it was graceful. We went down a couple more times and called it quits. It was such a fun day and not to mention I had a pretty handsome instructor!

I also can’t wait for spring to be here. It will be so nice to run outside consistently without freezing.

I will be testing out my new compression capris soon and let you all know how they worked out. I have never used compression anything before so I am anxious to see how they work.
